The Country Iron Foundry was founded by Don Stoughton in 1976. As an avid collector of American and French antique Firebacks and Stove Plates, Mr. Stoughton amassed a fine collection of rare and unusual pieces, many of museum quality. It was his profound appreciation for the history, beauty and functionality of Firebacks that kindled his desire to reintroduce these charming, yet practical items to the American public. Each Fireback produced by The Country Iron Foundry is an authentic replica, hand cast in sand molds with patterns made directly from the original, by our skilled and dedicated craftsman. All are genuine reproductions from the original; never a copy of a reproduction. We produce over 30 different styles of firebacks and stove plates, in a variety of sizes. Our collection includes selections that compliment fireplaces of modern architecture, as well as older and historic fireplaces. Over the years, we have been most gratified by the enthusiastic reception accorded our reintroduction of firebacks into America. After being delighted with the quaint beauty of the fireback, many of our customers add to their collections and order additional firebacks for other fireplaces in their homes, and to give as special gifts to family and friends.
