May 15, 2014 In recognition of 2014 marking FitzGerald Associates Architects’ 95th year in the architecture business (Founded in 1919 as Rissman and Hirschfeld), FitzGerald has brought together a visual representation of the firm’s path and accomplishments through almost a century of business and development in Chicago. Featured among prominent commissions are the 1920’s home of Oscar Meyer, Lake Shore Drive co-ops, dozens of loft conversions, Parkside of Old Town replacing Cabrini-Green, and current work like the Arkadia Tower and the planned Atrium Village redevelopment.

FitzGerald Associates Architects has been a leader in the rehabilitation and adaptive reuse of existing buildings for decades. In fact, over the past 20 years, Pat FitzGerald has redeveloped several historic buildings and used historic tax credits to help fund the projects. We have nominated several buildings to the National Historic Register. Especially during these challenging financial times, considering a historic rehab and utilizing historic tax credits makes good financial sense.

Compared to older drafting methods, Building Information Modeling, or BIM, represents an opportunity for all parties involved in the design, construction and operations of buildings to more clearly convey the intent and information of the design in the form of a digital model, which can then be used to create a more cohesive end product that is less expensive and less time-intensive for the owner. A form of virtual construction, BIM takes the guesswork out of design and construction.

FitzGerald Associates’ staff has decades of experience planning and designing residential and commercial interiors. We know that a successful building interior integrates architecture, structure and mechanical systems with the users’ programmatic requirements. Like our architecture, we don’t bring a singular style to every project but, rather, respond to context, client and user.
