Florence County Disabilities Foundation was established to provide funding for the Florence County Disabilities and Special Needs Board. The Foundation Seeks funding from various sources such as corporate donations, fund-raising activities and grants. the Foundation Board promotes making a difference in people's lives by sponsoring opportunities such as summer camps, talent contests, holiday meals, uniforms for special olympic athletes and other activities and programs.

Florence County Disabilities and Special Needs Board began in 1981 and was known as Lake City Area Citizens for the Mentally Handicapped. The Organization was established to promote the welfare, training and recreational for people with intellectual disabilities. It began with four employees and served 18 people.
