On our cover, Tampa architect Don Cooper, of Cooper Johnson Smith, designed an old Florida vernacular-style house on Anna Maria Island on the west coast of Florida. A modified, courtyard design, the house enjoys golf course views to the west and a spectacular view of Tampa Bay to the east. Having worked with the homeowners on several previous projects, New York interior designer Woody Goldfein was re-enlisted for interior furnishings for the new Florida residence. In deference to their clients' love of nostalgic Florida homes and resistance to overly designed interiors, the architect and designer have delivered a sophisticated yet relaxed seaside retreat. Another Tampa designer, architect Debbie Hepner was hired to design a 3,300-square-foot loft in the Channel District, adjacent to the Port of Tampa. The raw space provided the perfect palette for creating a minimalist, urban space. The apartment is at once contemporary and inviting with a stunning view of the port and city scape. In Vero Beach, architect Lynn Silkworth and interior designer Sandra Burrris teamed up for a substantial renovation of a house in John's Island. In addition to relocating and expanding spaces in the original house, the two were asked to add elaborate millwork and architectural detailing as well as finishes and color.
