Description
Susie worked at Sequent Computers/IBM for 15 years, and Andrew worked at KPFF Consulting Engineers for over 10 years. After this experience, Andrew and Susie decided to start a small business dedicated to old fashion customer service and client advocacy. This allows them to share their specialized experience without exclusive relationships associated with larger firms. Andrew has specialized training in Ocean Engineering, understanding of morphodynamic ocean and river processes and extensive experience with big rivers, including the Willamette and Columbia.
We specialize in projects that the average engineer cannot solve. Examples include building a set of stairs over a cliff with no access, modifying an old dock for a new life, developing an interpretive trail across a sensitive wetland, an ADA walkway that can move up and down 30 feet with no operators, or a new dam that can tranform from a fish passage to a recreational lake with the seasons. The following examples are a small sample of our innovative solutions and unique approaches to impossible problems.
Flowing Solutions, a multi-disciplinary consulting firm, specializes in waterfront planning, permitting and design, stream and river restoration, as well as manufacturing process development, layout and design, and supplier management consulting. This unique combination of skills and expertise allow the development of creative solutions to challenging problems. Our strengths are founded in creativity and unique approaches to problem solving. Every project in engineering is unique, with a unique set of circumstances; thus successful solutions must also be unique.
Andy has focused his career on riverfront development and enhancement along the Willamette, Columbia and other local rivers. As an avid sailor and boater, he possesses a strong understanding of local river conditions, challenging environments and user needs. This, combined with his Ocean Engineering training, allows detailed understanding of the morphodynamic nature of large river bodies. He has extensive experience working with riverbanks and docks on the Willamette and other large rivers. Many of his projects include assistance with securing grants and funding.
With planning, permitting, design and construction experience on over 60 boat launch ramps in the Northwest, Flowing Solutions has the experience necessary to solve any site-specific need. As an avid boater, Andrew understands what users need and expect in a facility. Each site is unique and applying a standard design is not appropriate. Wind, waves, current, debris, sediment are among the influences that can make ramp projects challenging. Using our experience, we assess all of these factors, and others, to develop an appropriate solution.
