Flushing Bid

Description

The Downtown Flushing Transit Hub Business Improvement District (BID) or "Flushing BID" is a not-for-profit organization that was formed in September 2003 by property owners, businesses, residents and community leaders with a stake in the downtown Flushing community. We are the 45th BID to be created in New York City and Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg's 1st new BID of his administration. The Flushing BID came to fruition at an opportune time and in a record amount of time, with unified support from the local elected administration top down, from Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, Deputy Mayor Dan Doctoroff and Commissioner of the NYC Department of Small Business Services Robert W. Walsh on behalf of Mayor Bloomberg, to our local elected officials lead by Council Member John Liu, State Senator Toby Stavisky, and Assemblyman Barry Grodenchik. Spearheaded by Council Member John Liu who helped unify the elected officials and the community, the creation of a Steering Committee to look into the feasibility of creating a BID in Flushing came at the long-time urging of the local community who helped build up the downtown Flushing area to what it is today and the community leaders who paved the way before us to improve the district with a "world of choices" and to get "the best for Flushing", namely Community Board 7, the Flushing Chamber of Commerce and Business Association and the Flushing Chinese Business Association.
