Dr. Rex Fortune is a lifetime educator focused on improving opportunities and success for disadvantaged youth. He is founder of Fortune Schools and author of two books, each with a corresponding DVD. His most recent book, "Bridging the Achievement Gap", is a study of Sacramento schools with at least 50% of the student body coming from disadvantaged homes, yet still performing well in state standards. Dr. Fortune & his colleagues looked for commonalities in these successful schools. They identified eight leadership strategies, 33 teaching strategies and 11 parent strategies that have been successful in transforming schools that were previously turning out low-achieving students.
