Description

Friends was founded in 1996 by world renowned photographer Kenro Izu after he witnessed the suffering of Cambodia's children during a trip to photograph the Angkor monuments. In 1999, Friends built and opened Angkor Hospital for Children (AHC) in Siem Reap, Cambodia. Since that time, AHC has treated over 1.2 million children, trained hundreds of healthcare professionals, and is considered “one of only three essential healthcare institutions” in the country as stated by a Cambodian Health Minister.

Since 1996, our signature purpose has been Angkor Hospital for Children in Siem Reap, Cambodia. In late 2011, we treated our one millionth patient at the hospital-a milestone that was scarcely imaginable when we opened the hospital in early 1999. In the year 2011 we saw 129,081 girls and boys at AHC, setting yet another record for treatments in a year.

From the very beginning Friends Japan worked with Friends USA to make the dream of Angkor Hospital for Children a reality. Founded in 1997 with an office in Tokyo, Friends Japan has raised over one million dollars annually for Angkor Hospital for Children.
