AMSA is the result of a merger of the three predecessors — the American Movers Conference (AMC), the Household Goods Carriers' Bureau (HGCB), and the National Moving & Storage Association (NMSA) — each with its own distinguished history. Our earliest predecessor was the National Furniture Warehousemen's Association, founded in 1920 in Michigan. This oldest trade association for movers in America later became headquartered in Chicago.

As the national trade organization for the full-service, professional moving industry, one of our primary missions is to provide consumers with accurate information and provide tips and guidance to have a safe move every time. For our initial post, we are providing AMSA's top ten tips for a successful move.

For more than 25 years, the Certified Moving Consultant (CMC) credential has come to represent a fundamental competency and adherence to ethical conduct of the sales force for the Household Goods Moving & Storage Industry.
