Marty and Kara Ludlum began a trust accounting business in 1991. The idea came out of a need Kara had for her own funeral homes. Each month, Kara and her mother would manually post activity to each account and every year, they spent hours and hours manually reconciling the annual report. There had to be an easier way. She decided to find out if other funeral homes were struggling with their trusts too. She sent a letter to funeral homes all across Oklahoma to see if there would be any interest in a company that issued monthly trust reports and prepared the annual report. She received several phone calls from funeral directors who were very excited about such a company and a few other funeral homes gathered up all their trust information and shipped it to Lawton. Kara hired a computer programmer to customize a software and that started a business that continues to grow and offer more services each year Kara and her husband, Marty, founded FDR in 1991. Kara has extensive knowledge of the funeral industry as well as business and accounting. Kara's family has owned and operated funeral homes in Frederick, Grandfield, and Lawton for many years which gives her a broad understanding of the business. Kara graduated with honors from the University of Oklahoma in 1986 with a degree in accounting and became certified in 1987. She also obtained a Masters in Business Administration from Cameron University in 1991. Kara continues to play a vital role in FDR while still staying actively involved in her own family owned funeral homes.
