We, Michael and Lynn Monroe, started FungusAmongUs Inc. in a small corner of our garage in Seattle, Washington in 1993. We were purchasing shiitake mushroom blocks from another farmer in Oregon and set out to find out what kind of market there was for gourmet mushrooms. The response was overwhelmingly positive (with a few skeptics thrown in for good measure) so we decided to take the plunge in 1994 and bought a small farm in Snohomish, Washington, which is about 30 miles north of Seattle. We are now the largest gourmet mushroom farm in the state and have expanded into oyster and lion's mane production as well as providing wildcraft mushrooms to our customers.
