Attending a one room schoolhouse, she was encouraged by a traveling art teacher to continue her interest in drawing. Sherry continued drawing from the age of four and at age eleven finished her first oil painting. Her artist and signpainter father encouraged her artistic skills at an early age. He taught her to cut film for his silkcreen projects at the age of twelve. She entered local art competitons and won two first place awards for environmental poster designs by the age of thirteen. Sherry exhibited skills of an entrepreneur at age fourteen when she started her own designer candle business. Having home parties she took orders from friends and relatives to make extra money. In 1980 she and her husband started participating in art and craft shows featuring toys and wood products. Later they opened their own gallery ehibiting art paintings and fine crafts. This became an opportunity to paint commissioned portraits for many clients. Her painting series of camp directors can be seen at Camp Runioa in Belgrade Lakes. Since she had learned sign painting skills from her father, Sherry decided to open a commercial sign company in 1984. Her skills in design, lettering, gold leafing, and airbrushing were put to work. While operating the sign business, she also developed an art program for pre-schoolers and traveled in the surrounding area teaching art to children. In the evenings she taught drawing and oil painting classes to children and adults. Sherry also attended the University of Maine Augusta in 1983 for music and began performing music with her jazz guitarist/composer husband Theo Williams. She had played drums professionally for seven years and took up bass guitar in 1996 and found that to be her favorite instrument. In 1993 Sherry and her husband published a music magazine that was in circulation for one year. During this time she developed skills in graphic design while creating ad layouts and art and photography pieces. As the sign business slowed down, she turned her ideas into the company it is today. Taking the advertising and fine art skills she had developed... the concept was born... Gallery Concepts!
