Galvan has been a major supplier to the electrical/electronic industries for more than 30 years. Galvan manufactures hot dip galvanized, copper clad and stainless steel ground rods. Galvan is the only manufacturer of both hot dip galvanized and copper clad UL-Listed ground rods in the United States. Galvan also produces stainless steel and pigtail rods along with a full line of grounding clamps.
Originally founded in 1958, the facility was acquired by Charles and Clarence Willard as a subsidiary of Willard Industries in 1960. Willard Industries was a lead smelter and specialty fabricator located in Charlotte and the acquisition made good business sense due to the demand for zinc coatings and lead fabrications. The original plant was equipped with a 10' x 3' x 4' kettle and was suitable only for relatively small parts. In the early 60's the kettle capacity was expanded to 27' in length to facilitate larger fabrications and structural steel.
Galvan has been a supplier to electrical contractors and utilities for more than 55 years. The company offers a full line of electrical grounding products, accessories, connectors and tools that are used in residential, commercial and industrial applications, including construction, cable TV, lightning protection, power transmission and telecommunications. They are available from leading electrical wholesalers and distributors throughout the United States.
Wholesalers also have significant liabilities associated with selling unmarked rods. While most galvanized and stainless steel ground rods sold today are not marked, if a rod that has no markings – neither a listing mark nor a manufacturer’s name or symbol – fails to pass inspection, the installer could demand a refund from the wholesaler. If there is no way to identify the manufacturer, the wholesaler is stuck with the loss.
