With todays flashing and seaming products / specifications you are guaranteed to have a long lasting roof over your head for several years. epdm (rubber) is a great option for just about any flat roof. Rolls of rubber are available in many sizes to help speed of installation and elimination of seams. Installation specifications can call for either a fully adhered system (glue down) or a mechanically fastened ( attach with screws and plates then patch over fastener). We always first recommend the fully adhered system for a longer life and less future maintenance. Epdm can be installed over a wide array of materials, however, we recommend installing an insulation board first to glue to. This will also help with the insulation value received. TPO (thermoplastic) is a great option as well. One of its earliest recognized benefits of these membranes systems relates to their seaming technology. Thermoplastic membranes can be joined together by chemical or heat welding, both which produce permanent bonds of high strength. Their applicability can be applied to most any roof situation. Barrel, dome, steep slope, and large expansive flat areas are many designs that can accommodate TPO. Another benefit is their ease of maintenance and repair. When properly installed these materials have been known to exceed 15 years in life expectancy.
