Engineering Team Eric Ingersoll, Chief Executive Officer* — In addition to leading the company, Eric also actively participates in technical development of General Compression’s proprietary compressor/expander systems. He has invented a number of renewable energy systems, currently being commercialized by companies with which he is associated, based on innovative strategies he has developed. He also has a deep background in both the science of climate change, and the extraordinary risks and opportunities it creates. Prior to assuming his current role at General Compression, he was CEO of Mechanology, where he led the successful development of a novel large compressor (for General Compression), a $2.7M Department of Energy development contract for an integrated 25kW compressor/expander, and a $1M Department of Defense development contract for a compact 50kW novel power recovery cycle. Eric’s prior work in commercializing energy technologies has included addressing key challenges such as product development, market entry, financing, and the policy environment. * (see primary bio under executive management ) Justin Aborn, Chief Scientist* — In his 24-year history to date, Justin Aborn has earned a reputation as a highly effective team leader of high stakes campaigns advancing the leading edge of technology and its applications, repeatedly driving cutting edge technologies from architectural ambiguity to functioning fielded systems. Moreover, Justin is known for skillfully communicating complex technology concepts to industry, press, and government organizations, and effectively advocating for technology to embrace and serve all aspects of corporate and social interaction. In 2008, Justin was honored as a High Tech All-Star by the Mass High Tech as an individual who has demonstrated noteworthy influence and leadership in the advancement and commercial adaptation of new technologies in the New England region. * (see primary bio under executive management ) Vladimir Knobel, Senior Design Engineer — Vladimir has more than 20 years experience managing the design, fabrication, and commissioning of new large machines and process equipment. For ten years prior to joining General Compression, Vladimir was the Senior Mechanical Design Engineer for H.C. Starck, Incorporated, responsible for design improvements across a broad range of plant equipment, including vacuum furnaces, reactors, crushers, tooling for presses, rolling mills, and wire producing machines—including design, vendor management, and startup operations. As the Senior Mechanical Design Engineer at Molten Metal Technology, Vladimir designed and installed mechanical systems for the environmental recycling company, supervising CAD drafters and designers. Typical equipment and systems designed included ultra-high temperature capable ASME vessels, hydraulic systems, test fixtures and heaters. Vladimir started his career at Dynetics Corporation as a Senior Machine Design Engineer, designing automated robotic machine systems, coordinating manufacturing and system installation, and holding responsibility for all aspects of machine and system design, weldments, stress analysis calculations, machine layout, material specification and documentation. Vladimir holds a US patent (#5,182,881). Vladimir earned a BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering from the Institute of Mechanical and Chemical Engineering in Moscow, Russia. Bruce Johnson, Director Engineering Procurement — Bruce has over twenty-five years of aggressive purchasing and procurement experience, with a proven track record in company cost savings. His largest savings to date is over $100,000 on a single commodity item expensed to a total contract valued at approximately one million dollars. As Procurement/Transportation Manger at Hub Technologies, Incorporated, Bruce managed procurement activities for the fabricator of Power/Energy Components, specializing in ASME certified Pressure Vessels with Quality Management Certified to ISO 9001-2000. Bruce spent more than fifteen years procuring Thermal Oil Heaters and Ceramic-Lined Pulvarized Coal Piping/parts for New England Metal Fabricators, and managed the raw materials needs, such as structural steel and miscellaneous and ornamental metals for the KSK Engineering Corporation. Bruce attended the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, College of Civil Engineering. Luc Aalmans, Director of Testing — Prior to joining General Compression, Luc was the founder of AmDutch Distribution Products, LLC, a logistics software company serving industrial bakeries. In his role as president, Luc oversaw HR, sales, strategy, finance, project management, hiring, and marketing. He envisioned, designed, and implemented turnkey computer / software systems, trained users, and provided operational support. In 2006, AmDutch was acquired by pcdata B.V. and renamed Pcdata, Incorporated Luc previously served as a consultant in the R&D department of Arthur D. Little, Incorporated (ADL), where in his seven-year tenure he solved technical challenges on numerous projects ranging from heat pumps to a test unit on the space shuttle. He also modernized and automated ADL’s data acquisition process and taught classes on the subject. His work was recognized with a “Star Case” award for client satisfaction. Luc studied electrical engineering at the Hogere Technische School, and earned a Diploma in mechanical engineering from the Hogeschool Gelderland Apeldoorn, both in the Netherlands. Dr. Richard Gran, Simulink/Controls Consultant — Since 1996, Dr. Gran has been the founder and CEO of The Mathematical Analysis Company – a group of affiliates that develop mathematical models and simulation of complex engineering systems. Dr. Gran is an expert in the areas of Control Systems, Filtering and Estimation, Power Electronics, Signal Processing, Image Processing, Structural Dynamics, Aerodynamics, Thermodynamics and related Aerospace disciplines. Mathematical Analysis Company has provided mathematical modeling consulting for numerous clients including NASA Kennedy Space Center (KSC), NASA Stennis Space Center, Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART), Ocean Systems Engineering Company (OSEC), The Math Works, Long Island Lighting Company, Consolidated Edison Company, Brooklyn Union Gas Company, and more than twenty law firms and ten insurance companies nationwide. Dr. Gran started his career with Grumman Aircraft Systems as an Engineer in Guidance and Control and spent over twelve years as the Director of the Grumman Dynamics and Control Research Laboratory, overseeing 12 scientists on such projects as Fusion Reactor Control, Multidimensional Processing, Game Theory and Combat Analysis, and Numerical Techniques in Control. Dr. Gran also was the Director of Advanced Concepts for the Grumman Corporation, Director of Power Engineering at American Superconductor Corporation and an Executive Consultant for The Math Works. For over thirty years Dr. Gran has taught at a number of prestigious universities, including Polytechnic Institute of New York, George Washington University, and State University of New York at Stony Brook. Dr. Gran has authored or coauthored over 100 papers, reports and memoranda describing electrical, mechanical, aeronautical and other complex systems. Dr. Gran also holds seven patents and a number of Memberships and Honors in the engineering, aeronautics, astronautics, and control sciences. Michael Solt, Director of IT — Prior to joining General Compression, Michael Solt amassed eighteen years of MIS technical expertise in engineering and entrepreneurial environments. He began his career at the Naval Underwater Warfare Center, a US military contractor building towed-array passive sonar systems for the US Navy submarine program. In his 11-year tenure with Bolt, Beranek and Newman (BBN) — the networking pioneer funded by DARPA in the 1960’s to design the ARPAnet from which today’s global Internet eventually evolved — Michael served in various capacities including engineer on the active noise attenuation systems for the US Navy SSBN Ohio-Class submarine fleet, and Information System Security Officer (ISSO) responsible for managing the computers and secure rooms for their classified processing programs. Eventually serving as Senior System Administrator to BBN’s network division, BBN Planet, Michael was responsible for the technical management of the network testing and engineering labs for their VPN and VOIP product offerings. Following BBN, Michael joined Bridgeport Networks, an innovative company merging VOIP and cellular technologies for the telecommunications industry. There he was manager for the engineering and IT labs at their Cambridge, MA office and the principal technical interface with their telecommunications customers in Slovenia. Michael studied engineering at the University of Connecticut. Scott Davis, Director, Intellectual Property – Scott joined General Compression from American Power Conversion, where he was responsible for global IP development and management for 12,000 employees in six global design centers. He also led legal and business teams to create IP-based value through protection of existing and future research developments, enforcement and licensing efforts. Scott has considerable experience in the alternative energy field, having led cross-development teams on many different projects ranging from fuel cell systems to advanced solar inverters to novel green power management systems. In addition, he has directed and advised large engineering and science teams on a variety of innovation projects, including advanced software development, wireless adapters, UPS power systems and advanced cooling solutions for large data centers. Previously he worked for Intellectual Ventures in Seattle where he was responsible for analyzing and licensing large patent portfolios. Scott spent 5 years working with Microsoft Legal and Corporate Affairs department and various law firms on Microsoft patent litigation cases as a Technical Consultant. He has worked on some of the largest patent litigation cases in history, such as Intertrust v. Microsoft, AT&T v. Microsoft , Sun v. Microsoft and Reiffin v. Microsoft. Scott earned a BS in engineering with top honors from Oregon State University and attended graduate school at the University of Nottingham in England.
