General Voice is focusing on these issues of knowledge management and business intelligence by applying its technologies to Audio Content Management. Pulling together "off the shelf" industry standard components and combining these components with General Voice's intellectual property creates new solutions for searching information within audio while maintaining the context of the information. Audio content management is an outgrowth of the tens of millions of dollars being spent by companies such as AT&T, IBM, Microsoft, Nuance, and others on perfecting the science of speech recognition. The success of a wide number of interactive voice response systems, speech analytics, and more recently voice mail to instant messaging applications all indicate that hosting this class of software application is both doable and attractive to the marketplace. General Voice's solution, and one of the areas protected by its patents, is to view audio conversations as a collection of chronological events. For example the completion of a spoken sentence or paragraph is an event. A change of speakers is an event. The move to a different subject of conversation, etc. are all events. The GVI solution is able to detect and "tag" these events in a way that renders them searchable and index-able.
