General Credit Union was chartered on April 25, 1960, by the National Credit Union Administration. Founded by General Telephone employees, the credit union has reached over $74 million in assets as of May 1, 2005.In addition to employees of GTE(Verizon), the credit union opened its membership to other employee groups. Lincoln Financial Group, Comcast, The Fort Wayne Komets, and Physicians Health Plan employees are a few of the companies eligible for membership. The charter also allows for family membership and carries a "once a member, always a member" philosophy. The most recent change to the charter states that anyone that LIVES OR WORKS in Fort Wayne, Indiana may join General Credit Union.The Board of Directors is the policy setting arm of the credit union. Elections are held each year for positions on this Board. Each credit union member has one vote in credit union elections.
