Description

Genomatica is a San Diego-based biotechnology company developing computer models of cellular metabolism used to drive research. Our models and underlying research methodology are at the heart of an emerging field of computational systems biology. Our technology supports the creation of biological models with predictive capabilities. These models allow scientists to analyze high-throughput data and to explore large integrated biological systems in an interactive fashion. These models are used to drive biological research and discovery for a wide range of commercial applications in which metabolism plays an important role, such as for the production of fine chemicals and biologics and for drug discovery and development. We provide complete solutions to our clients including the delivery of enabling software platforms, organism-specific models, and research and discovery capabilities. Our approach for cellular modeling is based on a notable history of academic research and scientific leadership, as evidenced by a substantial collection of over 100 peer-reviewed articles generated by the company's founders and their collaborators. One of the co-founders, UCSD Professor Bernhard Palsson, PhD, is a recognized leader in cellular modeling who has carried out research on mathematical modeling and computer simulations of cellular metabolism for over 20 years. Professor Palsson co-founded Genomatica with Christophe Schilling, PhD, who now serves as President and Chief Scientific Officer.Genomatica began operations in July 2000 with initial financing from Iceland Genomic Ventures and successfully operates on a revenue-based growth model. The company has been awarded government funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the National Science Foundation (NSF), the Department of Energy (DOE) and the Department of Defense (DOD). The Company has also established multiple corporate partnerships, including research collaborations with the Dow Chemical Company, the world's largest chemical company, Kyowa Hakko and DSM. Furthermore, the company has placed its technology at numerous leading academic and institutional research laboratories involved in systems biology research.
