George, Miles & Buhr, LLC (GMB) was established on January 1, 1960 by Victor W. Buhr, P.E., Thomas S. George, Jr., A.I.A., and William B. Miles, Jr, P.E. Victor Buhr and Tom George were previously associated with Victor W. Buhr and Associates, before starting GMB. Mr. Buhr was a retired Admiral of the Navy, bringing to GMB a long list of Navy contacts. The company first located on the 3rd floor of the First Shore Federal Building in downtown Salisbury.In the 1960’s, GMB specialized equally in architectural and engineering design. When the beaches began to develop in the 1970’s, the company shifted its focus to the engineering discipline. GMB developed a strong reputation as leaders in water and wastewater.In 1976, GMB moved to 724 East Main Street to accommodate its growth. At this time, there were about 15 employees. In 1985, the company expanded to Western Maryland, where they opened an office in Hunt Valley. Located just outside of Baltimore, the Hunt Valley office specializes in civil engineering design. In 1998, GMB opened a satellite office in York, Pennsylvania to serve as an extension of the Hunt Valley office. In 2001, GMB opened a second satellite office in Seaford, Delaware, an extension of the Salisbury office. The next year, in 2002, GMB expanded into Lewes, Delaware to focus exclusively on architectural design. Finally, in 2004, GMB opened a third satellite office in Dover, Delaware to be an extension of the Lewes office.
