The Bariatric Center at Georgetown Community Hospital offers the latest in laparoscopic bariatric surgery and care in an intimate setting our patients enjoy. We use only the most modern equipment and our facilities are second to none. In fact, we have been ranked as one of the top five bariatric centers in the nation by Obesity Help Magazine (July 2003). The Bariatric Center opened in 2000 and is at the forefront of medical care for patients suffering from morbid obesity. We offer laparoscopic bariatric surgery exclusively and our technically advanced, experienced surgeons perform hundreds of procedures a year. We have a skilled Bariatric facility and our team members were trained in San Diego, California with Dr. Alan C. Wittgrove, who performed gastric bypass surgery on singer Carnie Wilson. We also have the most advanced laparoscopic equipment available, and have recently completed construction on our new state of the art ICU/OR suites to better accommodate our weight loss surgery patients. We are unique in our after care program in that four of our nurses, including our program Director and our Education Coordinator have had weight loss surgery, and offer a professional as well as a personal perspective to our patients. Data has been published with the American Society of Bariatric Surgery that patients have better surgical outcomes, decreased cost and decreased length of stay in small community hospitals versus larger teaching hospitals...
