Geriatric Resources, Inc., is a company specializing in Alzheimer's caregiving resources and services. It has also conducted behavioral research for the National Institute on Aging. GRI was founded in 1987 by Ms. Mary Lucero, a gerontologist and nursing home administrator, with the goal of improving the quality of care and life of persons with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias.From her experiences in opening the first "no restraint" nursing home in the early 80's, Ms. Lucero quickly recognized the lack of appropriate caregiving resources and trained staff to properly serve the cognitively impaired residents. She thus established GRI to be that resource. Today, Ms. Lucero's caregiving resource catalogs are distributed to over 50,000 long term care institutions throughout the U.S. and Canada. The company also conducts over 100 educational workshops annually, throughout North America, on all aspects of dementia (all based on Ms Lucero's "Comfort Care" program). For its caregiving efforts, the company is the recipient of the "Education Award" by the American College of Healthcare Administrators.
