Getzs Incorporated, the parent company of Getzs.com, Stairwaytodenim.com, and Getz Department Store is a family owned business, anchored in downtown Marquette, a city of 25,000 people nestled on the shore of Lake Superior in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Getz Department Store was founded in the late 1800's by Louis Getz, a native of Russia who had immigrated to the United States in 1867. Mr. Getz established the original storefront in the city of Michigamme in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, about 45 miles west of the current store location. A catastrophic fire broke out in the Michigamme store in March of 1885, forcing Mr. Getz to move the operation. Following a few more location changes, Louis Getz settled on a three story building on the northwest corner of Front and Spring Street in downtown Marquette. Throughout the years the Getz family has carried on the legacy of Louis Getz, providing the community with the finest in Men's, Women's, and Children's clothing as well as items for the home. During the summer of 1997 the management and the Getz family grasped a new opportunity, taking their over 100 years of experience in retail and customer service, and offering the highest quality, reasonably priced merchandise to a world of consumers.
