Beneath the sheltering branches of a giant maple tree in a small seaside New England town, stands a saltbox home built in 1672. From his studio within, Lowell Hess conceives his award winning pop-up cards.Where most artists leave off with a completed static illustration or sculpture, the pop-up engineer's creativity is just beginning. Turning each greeting card in his mind, Lowell visualizes not only the final dimensional form his sculpture will take, but also the intricate means by which it will ultimately fold flat - and return again to full dimension when opened - with the help of a rubber band. Lowell has combined knife, brush and paper with whimsical brilliance to create pop-up cards more than rivaling the sophistication of the famous Victorian Age pop-up designer, Lothar Meggendorfer. The source of Lowell's inspiration has been a life immersed in architecture, art, design, family and community.Every card we produce is a reincarnation of the creative process begun in Lowell Hess' studio. Each card is painstakingly hand assembled for the most important occasions - yours!
