Description

The Minority Business Development Organization (MBDO) is a partnership of the Greater Akron Chamber and the Akron Urban League. This initiative will promote and support minority businesses by facilitation training, strategic management, networking and mentoring opportunities with major corporations. In addition, it will work to ensure minority businesses in Ohio have access to the assistance needed to be productive and profitable.

The mission of the Greater Akron Chamber is to promote economic development in Greater Akron. Read our mission statement for a detailed outline of our organizational goals.

Greater Akron's economic and business climate is ideal for growing businesses. This is the home of more than 21,000 businesses, including more than 150 Fortune 500 companies that have operations in the region. The region boasts some of the world's leading liquid crystal and polymer research. Over 16,000 polymer industry employees live here, and Greater Akron is the nation's leading manufacturer of plastic processing equipment. Plus, Akron hospitals rank among the 50 best in U.S.

The primary advantage to a company using Industrial Development Revenue Bond s is the lower tax-exempt rate or interest. Historically, the spread between interest rates on Industrial Development Revenue Bond issues and comparable conventional financing have ranged from 2% to 3% for the same quality company. Another tax advantage is that the company treats the project as its own, thereby permitting the company to take depreciation (on a straight-line basis) and to expense the interest.
