2009 Initiatives / Programs with Enid Chamber Involvement slogan are being utilized to brand and market our city for economic development, tourism, and quality of life (mailers to EHS alumni, new billboards, websites, etc). -recruit major retail chains that fill gaps and complement existing retail, and to increase Enid’s market share. Retail growth will also expand Enid’s sales tax base. -enhance downtown development. The shared vision includes improved gateways, trails and green space, downtown hotel, renovated/expanded Convention Hall, arts district, farmers market, and housing. -Foreign Trade Zone at the airport and to secure state funding to upgrade 66th Street. The projects will provide cost savings and improved airport access for businesses. -th grade mentoring program has expanded, thus exposing more children to local business opportunities and careers. The program will shift to 5th graders this year due to the new middle school structure. -state legislative forums and organized Enid Day at the Capitol to discuss state issues and promote key projects for the Enid area (downtown improvements, infrastructure, road projects). -federal legislative trip to Washington, D.C. (focused on Vance AFB projects, airport, and alternative energy opportunities). -48-unit apartment complex is completed. Additional affordable, quality housing opportunities for Enid’s eastside are planned. -Five new Enid businesses opened in the Center for Business Development at Autry Tech (four on site and one at airport). -Greater Enid Young Professionals is established and active. GEYP will be an important resource for networking, personnel recruitment, and advancing progressive community projects. -community events (Candy Cane Cash, Cherokee Strip, NWDJLS, Camp Tomahawk, Enlisted Appreciation, Noon Network, Business After Hours, Student & Teacher awards). -Ambassadors conducted ribbon cuttings and provided volunteer support at many Chamber and community events.
