Description
The Green Fund provides a specialized avenue for people concerned about the protection of Door County's environment and, therefore, its economy, to contribute to local land protection efforts. Contributions from any business, foundation, or individual are welcome. Local businesses, recognizing the obvious connection between preservation of the natural environment and as a result the tourist-driven economy that sustains them, are the largest contributers to the fund both in membership numbers and dollar amounts. What has the Green Fund accomplished thus far? Since its founding in 1998, the Door County Green Fund has awarded grants for land preservation/acquisition purposes to Crossroads at Big Creek, Sturgeon Bay; the Village of Ephraim; the Door County Land Trust; The Nature Conservancy; the City of Sturgeon Bay; and the Door County Parks Department. Hundreds of acres have been permanently protected in Door County with the help of Green Fund monies.
