The earliest record obtained regarding the property where the Grizzly Bite Café now stands is that it was a blacksmith shop in the late 1800’s until 1918. At that time the building and numerous others burned in a row along Main Street westward to the Creamery building. At that time Nelson Street did not exist. Later, a building was erected along the eastern boundary that was at first, a butcher shop and later a home (until at least the late 1940’s). This building was torn down and the existing home adjacent to the Grizzly Bite (east side on Main Street ) was built and is still a residence to date. The eating establishment was created originally as a hot dog stand. It was later added on to and called the Crystal Café. The existing building was erected in the late 1960’s. From then to present the building has been upgraded several times then allowed to degrade for a number of years, but has always remained an eating establishment and has been called the Grizzly Bite Café. There have been a number of owners and operators over its 40+ year history but has always remained a popular and well supported diner. The current owners have spent the last two years completely remodeling the building (and water system) and today it’s ready to go. During the renovation, over 100 horseshoes were unearthed, documenting the property’s history.
