A Halligan bar: is a special tool commonly used in the fire and rescue service. The Halligan is a multipurpose tool for prying, twisting, punching, or striking. It consists of a claw, a blade, and a tapered pick, which is especially useful in quickly forcing open many types of locked doors. Halligan Bar was established by two Chicago Fireman on January 1, 2001. The building that Halligan occupies was erected in 1893 and has been a tavern since that time. It was a favorite of Bugs Morans during prohibition. Bugs and his gang frequented the tavern when it was a speakeasy. John Dillinger was also a regular. These days Halligan holds its own as one of Chicagos most popular taverns. The specials are unsurpassed. The crowd and staff are friendly and lively & there is never a dull moment around here.
