Established in 1937 and locally owned and operated through three generations of the Harbert family, we carry on a tradition of customer care and quality product assortment with an ever increasing sense of community. Glenn Harbert opened the company and developed the local business spirit for thirty three years before retiring in 1970 to leave his son, Ty, in charge. The business grew from a 900 square foot retail store to its current 10,000 square foot building in 1989; and then in 1990 Ty's son, Gordon, decided to purchase the thriving business and carry on the family trade. Before becoming the owner, Gordon had spent years working in related fields which allowed him to bring a great deal of experience and community centered thought in to the business with him. Since our 1989 expansion, Gordon has added three businesses: High Desert Door, Wholesale Truss, and Ute Canyon Installation; all of which help to serve our customers and support the local economy with about 100 job positions at any given time. Along with boosting the economy of the Grand Valley, we own and direct the operations of NorthStar Lumber located in Edwards, Colorado; making it relatively convenient to enjoy the outstanding service and expert design knowledge of the Harbert Lumber crew from nearly anywhere on the Western Slope.
