Description

The Harrisburg Symphony Society is the volunteer auxiliary of the Harrisburg Symphony Association. It was founded in 1989 to help promote the growth and development of the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra. To fulfill this mission, it conducts events that raise both the visibility of the Symphony as well as critical funds. Since its inception, the Society has provided more than one million dollars to directly benefit the Orchestra. Fundraising The Symphony Society works hard raising funds to benefit the Orchestra through a variety of interesting and exciting events. The Designer Showhouse, one of its signature projects, has become renowned throughout our region and beyond. A major fundraiser, the Designer Showhouse features a Central Pennsylvania home decorated through the talents of area interior and landscape artists and artisans. Education Symphony Society volunteers are very active in educational endeavors offered by the Harrisburg Symphony Association. Society members serve as docents, visiting schools to prepare children for concert experiences at the Forum in Harrisburg. Volunteers also participate on the Educational Committee and work directly with Symphony staff to provide special events for subscriber families. Additionally, Society volunteers work behind the scenes at the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra Young Persons’ Concerts and at other educational programs. Hospitality Symphony Society volunteers contribute “back-stage” by providing well-earned refreshments to the musicians during rehearsal breaks.
