Description
The University of Hawaii Internal Medicine Residency Program (UHIMRP) is designed to develop outstanding clinicians. Approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM), the UHIMRP prepares its trainees to utilize the full range of medical and technological advances, while maintaining professional standards, humanism, and compassion. The categorical program provides comprehensive training in internal medicine, preparing its residents for both primary care and subspecialty training. To achieve these goals, residents primarily rotate through three private medical centers Kuakini Medical Center, the Queen s Medical Center, and St. Francis Medical Center. All housestaff are trained in ambulatory care at the Queen Emma Clinics. Level One and Three residents also rotate through the Veterans Affairs outpatient clinics. Inpatient care occurs at all of the three main hospitals. Residents may choose to take various electives at other medical centers in Hawaii, as well as international rotations and electives at Stanford University (see FAQ s). Residents learn through supervised patient care, bedside teaching, and outstanding weekly conferences such as the Department of Medicine Grand Rounds and the Overview of Internal Medicine lecture series.
