Ron Hale has been an independent consultant in strategic planning, program evaluation, and resource development for health and human services organizations in New Mexico and the West for over 30 years. He works primarily in the field of community health, with an emphasis on helping to strengthen New Mexico’s county and tribal health councils. Ron worked at the New Mexico Department of Health for five years in the Office of Community Partnerships, Public Health Division. Ron has held faculty and administrative positions at St. John’s College in Santa Fe, Antioch University/West, the College of Santa Fe, and the Community College of Vermont. He serves on a number of non-profit boards and as a volunteer producer on public radio stations in Santa Fe and Albuquerque.

Mim Dixon has worked with tribes as a policy analyst, researcher, facilitator, planner and health care administrator. She lived in Alaska for more than 20 years where she administered a tribally-operated health clinic that served Fairbanks and 42 villages in Interior Alaska. After moving to Colorado in 1993, she worked for the National Indian Health Board (NIHB) as a policy analyst and researcher, travelling throughout the United States listening to issues important to tribes. She served as health director for the Cherokee Nation in 2000.

The MOM is good for generating positive public relations, awareness, and good feelings every year and a half. But just as the “Are you in pain” question failed to accurately represent this man’s dental condition and the day-to-day realities his pain, the MOM fails to understand the nature of NM’s dental health and access crisis. More importantly, the MOM fails to provide a meaningful long-term solution.

"They learn how to do fillings and extractions along with providing preventative services," Batliner said. "This program has proved to be a raging success among tribes in Alaska.
