In 1992 health care industry leaders from these associations joined together to solve their workers' compensation problems by establishing the Workers' Compensation Fund for Health Care, and this collaboration continues to reap benefits today. On January 1, 2001, Health Care Mutual took over the Workers' Compensation Fund for Health Care, and began operation as a Georgia domiciled captive insurance company. The goal of Health Care Mutual, like its predecessor, is to provide a stable source of quality workers' compensation coverage for its members. The captive structure eliminates "joint and several liability" for members and allows more flexibility.
