Alan has extensive experience in the development of ambulatory strategies and ambulatory facilities dating back almost 25 years. He was involved in the development of the first free-standing physician-owned imaging center in the United States, as well as the development of some of the first free-standing surgery centers. His ambulatory experience includes cancer centers, freestanding emergency rooms, medical malls, medical office buildings and numerous other types of facilities.

When the new campus was developed, the System’s original intention was to cease providing inpatient services in Eugene. However, due to planning restrictions, the new hospital could not be built with enough beds, forcing the System to continue operations in Eugene with plans to build a new 110-bed hospital on the old University District campus.

Health Futures has worked with over 50 hospitals on a variety of engagements and has participated in the development of over $3.5 billion of health care facilities representing several million square feet of space.

A competitive analysis was done to reveal opportunities and threats. Recommendations were made for consolidation, expansion and development of new facilities. Prioritization, timing and sizing was established in order to develop a 5 year plan for the growth and optimization of the medical group.

Health Futures was retained in order to develop a strategy for integrating the Tamarack group and its services with the Hospital, and to examine, reprogram and improve the Hospital’s outpatient services. The architectural firm of Zimmer, Gunsel, Frasca (ZGF) was retained to provide architectural design services and work with the team on implementation.
