A veteran-owned certified small business, HSA was founded in 1970 by industrial hygiene pioneer Howard Spielman, PE, CIH, CSP, REHS, and has a long-standing reputation for setting and raising the standards for a wide range of services.

Health Science Associates staff includes Certified Industrial Hygienists, Registered Professional Engineers, Certified Safety Professionals, Registered Environmental Health Specialists, Registered Environmental Assessors, Certified Asbestos Consultants, and Certified Lead-Related Construction Specialists. Environmental Microbiology Services are led by Joel I. Berman, CIH, CSP, Vice President, who has become an industry leader in this field. Kathy S. Jones, CIH, CAC and Vice President has a 25 year background in Industrial Hygiene, and Environmental consulting and Laboratory Direction.

The California Industrial Hygiene Council was founded in 1990 to establish a legislative presence in the California State Capitol for the industrial hygiene profession. It is supported by the local sections of the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) within California. The local sections consist of Northern CA, Orange County, Sacramento, San Diego, and Southern CA. It is designated as the AIHA State Governmental Affairs Organization in California. There are ten official board members, made up of two to three volunteering directors from each AIHA local section.
