Dawn Crump, MA, SSBB, CHC, has been in the healthcare compliance industry for more than 18 years and joined HealthPort in 2013 as Vice President of Audit Management Solutions. Prior to joining HealthPort, Ms. Crump was the Network Director of Compliance for SSM. She has healthcare experience in education, organization development, quality improvement and corporate compliance.

It helps develop the skills and knowledge to successfully facilitate the compliant exchange of protected health information (PHI). We provide our associates with ongoing training.

Further technological advancements were made to enhance its automated ROI system and provide flexible service delivery options for customers. Among these innovations are a Web-based logging and tracking system for ROI requests and a secure electronic delivery mechanism for health information. Additionally, HealthPort enabled healthcare providers to face the challenge of accounting of disclosures with a Web-based capture and reporting solution.

The release of information (ROI) industry was established in 1976 when HealthPort® (founded as Smart Corporation) founder John Smart identified the need to address the administrative strain on healthcare facilities in releasing protected health information (PHI). A general lack of in-house resources dedicated to the growing demand for PHI prompted the conception of an outsourced solution to this need that would hasten the exchange of PHI between healthcare facilities and requesters and positively impact patient satisfaction.

Sheila Green-Shook, Director of HIM and Privacy Officer at Evergreen Health in Kirkland, Washington, has worked with both Cerner and Epic patient portals. I met with her at HealthPort’s HIM Educational Summit . She confirms that “some portals are excellent for patient access to records and others are not,” and adds, “EHR portals are only as robust as the physicians documenting within them.” The wide-spread adoption of patient portals already has a positive effect on healthcare.
