Description
Homes for Endangered and Lost Pets is a state-licensed and not-for-profit organization. It was formed by members who recognized the need for an all-volunteer humane system of rescuing lost or homeless animals, providing medical care and a temporary home while a suitable permanent home could be found.H.E.L.P. has no shelter, but rather, volunteers foster the animals in their homes. We prefer this method, as we feel that providing a "normal" home not only benefits the animal, but also gives the foster family a good idea of what type of person would be a good match for the cat or dog. In cases where abuse is evident, the home helps to rehabilitate the animal by restoring its ability to love. The new owner agrees to sign a contract which includes a provision requiring owners to contact the organization if they are ever unable to keep the animal. We do not kill any adoptable animal just because they have not been adopted within a given time period. However, we will not prolong the suffering of an animal with a terminal disease or illness, or with a personality that would make living in a home with people a miserable experience for the animal. We also cannot keep an animal in foster care whose temperment poses a danger to those he lives with. We do treat many injuries and conditions and help prolong the lives of many dogs and cats. Furthermore, we have many foster animals who have been in our care for years because they were never adopted. (This is what our Sponsor-A-Pet Program covers.)
