Description

Higgins, Cavanagh & Cooney LLP was founded in 1951 when James H. Higgins, Jr., and Joseph V. Cavanagh joined their law practices. They had a common educational experience at Harvard Law School and had both spent their college years in the City at Brown University and Providence College, respectively. They were joined in 1962 by John P. Cooney, who had retired as Chief Judge of the Providence District Court. Together these three former Presidents of the Rhode Island Bar Association founded an organization that today has grown to a staff of over fifty (50) employees, ranking the firm's litigation group to be one of the largest in the state. Higgins, Cavanagh & Cooney's own growth has, in many respects, mirrored the pace and progress of Providence.
