High Rocks is actively recruiting qualified candidates interested in volunteering full-time with AmeriCorps September 2014 - August 2015. Educate, empower, and inspire young people in our flagship leadership development programs in Pocahontas, Nicholas and Greenbrier Counties. Provide academic support for girls and alums, develop curriculum and teach programs throughout the year and at education-intensive summer camps, facilitate groups, travel on college and service trips, and collaborate with a team of professionals dedicated to youth development, community organizing and social change.
Interns complete a 10-week term at High Rocks from May 27th, 2014 to August 2nd, 2014. The internship has two main components: seminars/projects and hands-on experience working with teen girls. Interns serve as mentors, role models, and teach during two summer camps: New Beginnings for 7th grade girls (14 days) and Camp Steele for 8th-12th grade girls (17 days). Before camp, interns help prepare the campground and plan classes. During camp they are paired with a master teacher to assist in a class that teaches diverse subject areas such as math, science, and creative expressions.
