When we first set out to establish Highgate in 1992, we had a very clear vision of what it could and should be. We didn't want to just build another building, or provide a typical "old folks home." Nor did we want to try to present some kind of grand hotel for seniors. Instead, we wanted to create a special kind of environment where people who should no longer live alone could have the comfort they were used to and the independence they wanted, but with the assistance they needed to make daily life as easy and rewarding as possible. We knew then, as we do now, that what we were creating was a mini community where all of us involved - the residents, the staff, the families, friends and the broader community around us - would share in, enjoy, benefit from, and feel not just good, but great about this lifestyle option. We now have several Highgate locations throughout Washington, Montana and California, with more coming. While each varies in design and has its own unique character, they all share a common theme. Each has been carefully planned and crafted to reflect the feeling of a warm and welcoming country inn - run by a family group that cares deeply about the place they have, what they do, and the people who are with them. Highgate is intentionally smaller in size, for several reasons. It provides a setting that is both intimate and cozy, but spacious where it counts.
