Beth Kendall Workshop: "From Slip to Slab: Paper Clay and Hand Building" Up and Down the Aisles at Manassas Clay Tin Barn Pottery Firing Opportunities Beth Kendall Workshop "From Slip to Slab: Paper Clay and Hand Building" Save the Date: November 21-22, 2009 from 10-4 We all face the daunting task of reclaiming scraps. Why not streamline the process—go from slip to slab in just a few easy steps? In this two-day workshop participants will learn (through observation and hands-on) how to make paper clay slip from studio scraps and paper clay slabs of various thicknesses. Next participants will explore a variety of surface decoration techniques using slip application, paper resists, inlay, brushwork, and texturing tools. Finally, students will have the opportunity to make sculptures or vessels that take advantage of this thick, thin, wet, dry, smooth or textured, versatile material. Beth Kendall lives and works in Northern Virginia. Her work and writing has been feature in Ceramics Monthly, Clay times, Pottery Making Illustrated, and Studio Potter. In 2007 she was selected as an emerging artist by the National Council on the Education of Ceramic Arts. Her works have been exhibited and sold at both national an international venues and are in the permanent collection of the Yixing Ceramics Museum, Peoples Republic of China, and the International Ceramic Center in Denmark among others.
