Historic Performance

Description

Historic performance has been around for a long time, but it is just now coming into its own. Historic sites are recognizing and capitalizing on historic performance as a means to compete for the attention of various publics while also educating. The language of historic performance, however, is not well-defined. Hence, communication problems sometimes occur between program planners and those they think they might want to bring in to entertain and educate their public. Museum staff might not know whether a re-enactor and a historic performer are the same thing. And what is a chautauqua? A living history demonstrator? Will they charge us? How much? What will we get in return?
