Stephen J. Ketterer (B.S., Colgate Univeristy; MBA, Duke University ) started to focus on HIV in 1986, when it was a brand new therapeutic area. His work for Burroughs Wellcome on the first HIV drug, AZT, was groundbreaking because he developed unique ways of conducting market research with poorly defined, misunderstood, and often fractious constituencies. In the ensuing years, as other drug companies developed HIV treatments, the need for a specialized market research group became apparent, and Steve founded HIV Research to meet this growing demand.
