Description

The rich tapestry of New Mexico's history is woven from the threads of many cultures. The faint and meager threads of fluted projectile points and bison bones reveal the Folsom Paleo-Indians of 9,000 to 10,000 years ago. The mysterious thread of the Anasazi culture of northwestern New Mexico is disclosed by the intricate stone work of their walled cities and the remaining imprints of trade highways radiating from Chaco Canyon. Then between AD 1130 and 1180 their thread unexplainably disappears, possibly reappearing in the warp and woof of the Pueblo Indians who today live along the Rio Grande. Onto this scene erupted the Athapascan Indians, comprised of the Apaches and Navajos, to inject an aggressive and warlike thread into the tapestry.
