The Health Plan of the Upper Ohio Valley, Inc. was established in 1979 through provisions under the Federal HMO Act. As a Federally Qualified and State-certified, 501(c)(4) NOT-FOR-PROFIT HMO,our goal is to provide high quality, comprehensive and cost effective health care to residents of Ohio and North Central West Virginia. The Health Plan is West Virginia’s first and largest HMO and is licensed in both West Virginia and Ohio in a region encompassing a 41-county service area that includes Wheeling, Weirton, Morgantown, Clarksburg and Parkersburg in WV, and Steubenville, Akron, Canton, Cambridge and Zanesville in Ohio.The Health Plan’s extensive provider network includes over 3,700 physicians, 63 hospitals, and a national network of more than 52,000 pharmacies.The Health Plan takes great pride in maintaining its community, not-for-profit status. We’ve been able to develop new lines of business and expand our markets while remaining locally managed, which we think benefits our members.
