Description

Honematic Machine Corporation was founded in 1956 on the concept that the honing process, generally used for light finishing operations in specialty applications, could also be used for the abrasive machining of metals. Following the successful development of this concept, Honematic expanded its capabilities to include boring, turning, milling and grinding, thus providing a complete source for precision hollow components. The high degree of precision and quality control achieved by Honematic enabled the company to produce shock tubes for testing space capsule re-entry modules. Shortly afterward, it produced the main rotor shafts for the first jet-powered helicopters, stainless steel fuel cells for nuclear reactors used on navy ships, expansion joints for the first commercial nuclear breeder reactor, periscope elevation cylinder assemblies for nuclear submarines, and many other applications.Honematic also produced the first extendable telescopic fueling probes for rescue helicopters. These were used for the in-flight fueling of the first non-stop helicopter flight across the Atlantic. When the first men landed on the moon, their lunar lander was equipped with landing cylinders manufactured by Honematic.
