Hootwire kennels got its start in the late 70s with the aquisition of 'Ticker', a German Wirehair Pointer formally known as Am. Can. Mex. Ch. Tecolote Tic Tac Toe. Next, from Maine, came Am. Can. Mex. Ch. Buho Telocote Flight O' Maine C.D., aka 'Kashun'. The subsequent breeding of these two became the foundation of Hootwire Kennels located at the time in Southern California. Over ten Hootwire GWPs completed their championships, with the majority being owner breeder handled. Several also earned their obedience titles and NAVHDA prizes. In 1986 we added a new breed at Hootwire. "Poacher' (Ch. Belray Sirhan Braconnier CD), a Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen. He has the distinction of being the first AKC titled dog. Aquiring breeding stock from England, France, and the United States, Hootwire pbgvs began a very successful breeding program, producing many AKC, CKC, FCI champions. In addition, we've seen many of our dogs make their mark as wonderful family pets. Along the way, we saw the PBGVs go from no U.S recognition (shown in Canada, Mexico, and U.S. rare breed shows), to AKC misc. classes and then finally on to full AKC recognition. Missing the fun of the rare breed shows, we decided to add a Grand Basset Griffon Vendeen, 'Bandit' (ARBA, World, Mex. FCI Ch. After-Our's Grand Larceny) to our group. She is a beautiful orange and white grand and has over 25 Rare Breed Best in Shows, as well as a Hound Group 2 at the World Show in Mexico. We are now in the process of importing a...
