Description

Horizon Software Handles HIRE Act Reporting with Ease! According to the IRS website, the Hiring Incentives to Restore Employment (HIRE) Act, signed into law March 18, 2010, created new tax benefits that are available to employers who hire certain "qualified employees" in their trade or business. One of those benefits is the "Payroll Tax Exemption" that provides qualified employers with an exemption from the employer's 6.2% share of social security tax on wages paid to "qualified employees" from March 19, 2010, through December 31, 2010. The employee's share of social security tax and both shares of Medicare tax still apply to all wages. Users of the Horizon Software Payroll module have the tools they need to properly calculate and report this exemption on the quarterly form 941. Go to the Employee Master, tab "3-Withholding/Dates" and place a checkmark in the "HIRE Act" box for qualified employees and the payroll calculation will properly exclude this employee's wages from the employer's FICA tax calculation. The new "941 Detail Liability Report" will provide users with the information they need to pay tax liabilities and report this exemption on their quarterly returns. For more information on the rules and regulations regarding this exemption, Click Here! Attention!!! The September Program release is in programming and testing phases. Watch for your invitation to the webinars. PAHRA 2010 Horizon could not have been more excited to reunite with their customers at the Spring Conference for the Pennsylvania Association of Housing and Redevelopment Agencies. The conference took place June 6th through 8th at the picturesque Seven Springs Mountain Resort in Champion, PA. Horizon had a booth set up in the main exhibitor's hall on Monday and Tuesday for all PAHRA members and affiliates who wished to visit between conference lectures and roundtable meetings. Horizon's own Mark Eppley, Bob Swetz, and Dave Gallucci were available to answer questions about software, programming, and procedures. For new customers, they were ready and willing to demonstrate all of our housing and financial modules. What's New The second quarter module release is out. We have been updating all of our customers with the most recent versions. These updates contain new features and bug fixes. To see the What's New, go to WHAT'S NEW . Automated EDS for Transportation If you are a Human Services Agency that is running our Transportation module, we now have available an automated process for sending and receiving Eligibility files. If sending and receiving files from the state is a daily chore that can be inadvertently overlooked, consider running our automatic EDS process in conjunction with the Transportation program.
