My passion for the game was created by the stars of the Red Raiders in the late sixties. I loved going to the games and dreamed of playing in the current Baseball Stadium. The dreams carried over to sandlot games. I was Jimmy Moretti when I played Quarterback, Charlie Young at Receiver or Jack Dailey when I played Linebacker. When it was my turn in 1970 and 1971, those games were some of my lifetime favorites with teammates Walden, Hogan, Chambliss, Libordis, Sirianis, Sciottis, Kelly, Cleveland, Davidson, Angell, Babcock, Hollands, Mobley, Tillman and several others. Despite experiencing both individual and team success prior to moving to Hornell, I did not realize what it meant to be a part of a football family. The coaching staff, school and town combine to create an atmosphere where community pride comes with wearing a Red Raider jersey. A standard of excellence is set and then the instruction, support and encouragement is given to reach that level. Although we won our share of games, the true measure of our time were the lessons in commitment, preparation, toughness and perseverance that led us to reach for our potential. My decision to pursue a career in coaching and any success I have experienced since can be directly traced to the formative and positive experience of playing for the Red Raiders. I will always be grateful and proud to have played for Gene Mastin and to represent him and Hornell football with all future achievements. Jon McLaughlin '86 Quality Control Coach University of Iowa September 25, 2010 (Springfield, MA), Austin Dwyer (2010 Hornell Graduate) ran 22 times for 168 yards and two touchdowns, caught three passes for 33 yards and another score. This was his thrid collegiate game with Alfred University Saxons. Dwyer finished the day with 239 all-purpose yards and was named Empire 8 Offensive Player of the Week.
