Description

The world's first heated grip manufacturer: In 1976 Jim Hollander, the owner and president of Hot Grips Mfg., Inc. started work on inventing the first heated grip. It was his 5th and final year as member of the U.S. ISDT team, he knew warming frozen hands on engine fins really was not the best solution. He had used heated grips while becoming the top American Trophy team rider at the Austria 6-Days, so he went back to school, to attain a Mechanical Engineering degree. He developed a production heated grip by turning a homework assignment in class into a design that would stand up to the rigors of the International Six Days Trial. In 1982, the Top American ISDT rider Jeff Fredette used his limited edition dirt bike model of Hot Grips throughout the demanding event held in Europe. By 1981 his patented grips had been put in production, quickly becoming the snowmobile industry's largest selling accessory. Hot Grips has expanded its product line to include motorcycles, ATVs and snow-throwers. People have also installed them on skid-steers, bulldozers, forklifts and the control sticks of airplanes. The reputation of Hot Grips is legendary after 28 years in production.
